Nintendo-Microsoft Contract Brings Call of Duty To Nintendo Platforms

The two media giants have signed a binding 10-year contract to bring Xbox games to Nintendo platforms, Microsoft President Brad Smith confirmed via Twitter.

One of the details confirmed from the contract is the day-one release of every Call of Duty game on Nintendo Hardware on the same day as Xbox with all the features and content present in the Xbox version of the game. 

Call of Duty is seemingly just one of the titles that will be migrating to Nintendo platforms as more Xbox and Activision titles are to follow in the unforeseen future. 

The official statement from Microsoft President and Vice Chair, Brad Smith reads as follows: 

We are committed to providing long-term equal access to Call of Duty to other gaming platforms, bringing more choice to more players and more competition to the gaming market.” 

This is also something that has been alluded to for some time, especially keeping in mind the dual release of GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles. 

The real dilemma here is how is it going to be possible to get something like Call of Duty running on a Switch, a system that can hardly manage Nintendo’s own games at a reasonable performance. 

Even so, with rumors of a Switch pro put to the wayside and the Nintendo Switch in its 6th year, we can likely expect a successor to the Switch in the coming years. 

The Nintendo Switch itself continues to be on a hot streak as it still maintains its standing as one of the highest-selling consoles in the market and constantly reaches new milestones. 

Whether or not there is a Switch 2 on the horizon remains to be seen but considering the Switch’s commercial success it’s hard to see it happening anytime soon, yet from a technical standpoint, the Switch needs an upgrade yesterday, especially if Nintendo aims to bring Call of Duty to their platform.
