Diablo 2 Resurrected comes out in only a handful of weeks at this point. With a very successful beta test period taking place a few months ago and many outlets noting the game’s faithfulness to the original game down to a T along with significantly overhauled visuals and much more visceral gameplay, as well as numerous quality of life changes lacking in the original Diablo 2, Resurrected is in a very good spot currently despite the…”troublesome” events that took place in Blizzard recently.
In a recent developer update by Blizzard it has also come to light that Diablo 2: Resurrected won’t have Ultrawide support. The developer states that while Ultrawide support was heavily considered, the team ultimately decided against it for the sake of preserving the balance of the game. The developer update states that,
“For example, the AI failed to sense the player and trigger attacks. Furthermore, players with 21:9 monitors were able to pull many more monsters into battle at a range limit beyond the original game’s intention. In a scenario where players (for example: playing a ranged class) were attacking monsters, players with 21:9 monitors could hit enemies with that extra screen space, but the monsters would not pull or react, but could still be defeated.”
The update further stated, “To protect the integrity of everyone’s experience and promote an equal playing field for all, those with Ultrawide monitors will be able to have their game screen purview extended to 19:9 (the maximum length of the in-game limitation zones) with a vignette on the sides of the game screen.”
Considering the issue, it makes sense why Ultrawide support is excluded in this release as something like that could very well hurt the overall experience of a game like Diablo 2. The update also mentions changes to the console lobbies for streamlining the overall experience for console players.

The Diablo series is on a rocky slope right now and while hopes are high for Diablo 2: Resurrected, the series future remains foggy, to say the least. Blizzard is still dealing with the aftermath of the crushing lawsuit by the State of California citing troubling workplace conditions like sexual harassment against female employees and workplace sexism. It remains to be seen how this series will fare while these events are still fresh in the minds of the public, especially considering the fact that key figures from Blizzard have stepped down from the company following the harassment allegations put against them, including the game director for Diablo 4 which currently has no release date as of yet.
