New Details Emerge On Battlefield 2042’s Live Service Plans

Battlefield 2042s long-awaited seasons may not begin until March of 2022, nearly 4 months after the release of the game, according to data miner temporyal.

A new map is set to release for season 1, codenamed Exposure. set in Canada, the map will see US and Russian forces fighting for control of a research facility in the mountainous valleys of the British Columbia Province.

This new map appears to be large and wide open. Similar to previous BF maps like BF4’s Giants of Karelia  and BF3’s Bandar Desert.  

Since Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19, 2021, the only post-launch content released has taken the form of limited-time cosmetics earned by completing weekly challenges, which are not unusual for a live service game. However, a full season of content, alongside a battle pass often launches closer to the release of a game. Activision launched Call of Duty Vanguard’s first season on December 8th, a little over a month past its November 5th release date. Halo Infinite‘s season 1 launched alongside its multiplayer release on November 15th. 

DICE may have trouble retaining players as new major content may not arrive in the game until next March. Battlefield 2042 suffered a rough launch, with prevalent bugs and complaints over missing features, such as scoreboards and server browsers. The underwhelming launch state was acknowledged by EA, who promises to update the game for years to come. 

Battlefield 2042’s player count is dwindling, however. 2018’s Battlefield V recently overtook 2042’s player count on Steam. A game highest player count is almost always at launch. It would be reasonable to expect 2042’s player count to continue to dwindle, even as EA makes reasonable changes and updates to the game.

Season 1 cannot come soon enough for Battlefield. Games like Cod Vanguard have already seen a plethora of new content since launch. Time will tell if DICE can turn around 2042 like they did with Battlefront 2.
