It Turns Out You Can Skip Major Baldur’s Gate 3 Bosses If You’re Charismatic Enough

While unsheathing your sword at the first sign of danger might be the go-to option for most people playing Baldur’s Gate 3, one fan has had an entirely different approach. Legomaniac89 recently revealed on Reddit how they were able to avoid fighting multiple bosses in the game, simply by having a high enough Persuasion skill on their character.

The player mentions in their post that in their current playthrough, they’re playing as a Lore Bard. Bards are naturally great at talking their way out of difficult situations. This is thanks to their great stats in Persuasion. While you’d think their smooth talk would come in handy only when dealing with low-level creatures and mobs, turns out, it’s pretty useful at all stages of the game.

Legomaniac89 stated that in Act 2 alone, they were able to convince the Toll Collector boss she didn’t need any tolls. This avoids the fight altogether, as she immediately falls over dead once you’ve convinced her enough. Nearby is Thisobald Thorm, another boss who might give some players trouble. However, for this particular fan, he too was a piece of cake. That’s because it only took a bit of convincing before Thisobald talked himself to death.

Generally, attaining these outcomes in the game is quite difficult, as you need to pass multiple Persuasion checks, one after the other. Players often fail during these, initiating the fights, or end up resorting to save-scumming. But in the case of Legomaniac89, they simply got their Persuasion skill high enough to avoid the encounters altogether.

The fan also continued that in the second Act, the fight against the doctor and the surgeons at the House of Healing can be avoided too. You simply need to convince the doctor to do brain surgery on himself. It’s among the toughest fights of Act 2, but clearly, if your Tav is a smooth talker, they can get away without so much as a scratch.

Players added their own experiences with the game’s open-ended approach to fights. According to one player, you can skip Yurgir, the demon boss fight in the Gauntlet, too. Similarly, the final boss of Act 2, Kethric Thorm, can be made easier if you succeed in a Persuasion check. It’s clear Baldur’s Gate 3 rewards players who opt for more Charisma and Deception-focused builds more so than other RPGs.
