Story Highlights
- The Elden Ring DLC has proven extremely popular, as reflected by the current player count.
- It caused nearly 80% of the game’s initial launch peak to return, which is good for a DLC.
- It’s worth remembering that Shadow of the Erdtree came out two years after the title.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree has seemingly proven to be extremely successful. One part of its success is reflected in the number of active players that chimed into the game to try it out. As pointed out by @Okami13_ on Twitter, the total active player count peaked at 781,000 Steam players during its launch weekend. In other words, it stands at nearly 80% of the game’s launch active player count peak of 953K.
It’s worth remembering that such a huge number of veteran players returned to play a DLC that came out two years after the game’s launch. It certainly was a very high attach rate for the game.
The Elden Ring DLC Feels Like A Whole New Game
Despite the increased difficulty and a completely new feel to the game, the DLC offers more than you’d expect from one. FromSoftware has gone above and beyond to bring swaths of content in the form of new open-world areas, bosses, enemies, and items that make you feel like you’re playing the entry all over again. It is certainly a treat for players who played through the original title and craved more of it.
