Story Highlights
- Split Fiction is the latest co-op adventure by well-reputed developer Hazelight Studios and EA.
- The game is the spiritual successor of It Takes Two—a fairly popular split-screen action-adventure title.
- It came out last week and has already sold more than a million copies to date, with more being sold every second.
Now, here’s a successful product that many of us saw triumphing. Split Fiction is the next game to play if you fell in love with It Takes Two. Pretty sure this one is going to pop up as soon as you finish the latter and Google, “More games like It Takes Two.” The title was released last week, and has managed to garner universal acclaim, selling north of a million units within 2 days of launching.
Taking to Bluesky, Hazelight officials have reported,
SPLIT FICTION sold 1 MILLION units in its first 48 hours!
The love you all show for our game is overwhelming! Everyone here at Hazelight are beyond happy – and we can’t stop enjoying your amazing reactions!”
Coming hot off the heels of It Takes Two’s success, Split Fiction doubles down on the same bright formula that Hazelight exhibited in the latter, only that it’s done a much flashier, and improved job this time. It’s the world-building and story that the studio specializes in. We witnessed this excellence in It Takes Two, and now Split Fiction is managing to be a blast from start to finish just as well.
- P.S.: Hazelight’s A Way Out still pops up here and there in news pieces for selling quite high, despite the game coming out about 7 years ago.

Split Fiction Will Expected Outsell It Takes Two In Lifetime Sales

The best thing that Hazelight Studios offered to players is a “Friend’s Pass.” This lets your friend play the game with you even if they don’t own a full copy, but you do. History repeats course with Split Fiction, and when the title at hand is so incredibly well-made, it’s bound to rake in sales figures any chance it gets.
For reference, Josef Fares, the creator of Split Fiction, confirmed in a relatively recent interview with Washington Post that It Takes Two has rolled over 23 million copies in lifetime sales, while A Way Out, marches behind with 11 million units sold. I’m assuming — and this is not too far off — that Split Fiction will venture past the 25-million mark over the course of the coming years, given its quality and the demand for more co-op experiences.
At the moment, Split Fiction sits on the throne high with a 91 Metascore on Metacritic, the highest for any EA title in a long, long time. It came out on March 6, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, following its initial announcement at TGA last year.
