Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 brings players back to medieval Bohemia with a significantly larger world, expanded mechanics, and an even deeper focus on historical authenticity. With new additions like horse racing and Hardcore Mode already released a few months ago, Warhorse Studios has been steadily delivering on both fan expectations and post-launch support.
From Kuttenberg’s intricately planned NPC routines to subtle historical touches that boost immersion, the game’s attention to detail runs deep. To explore everything from post-launch surprises to the future of mod support, DLC plans, and the studio’s thoughts on game preservation, we spoke with Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, Communications Director at Warhorse Studios, over email.

None, really. Hardcore mode is a bit of a fan favorite, so people naturally asked for it from the day KCD2 released. But we didn’t just want to copy the system from the first game, we spiced it up a little and made it more interesting. We like the idea of giving something for free to everyone while the big paid DLCs are being released. So we’ll see if we can deliver something like that again in the future.
In KCD2, every NPC has an occupation, like a miller, for example. But an occupation is actually a series of individual activities set by hand for each NPC. Usually, there are more activities assigned than can actually play out at any given time, to provide variety or fallback options in case a place or item needed is already in use. So there are thousands of hand-crafted activities in Kuttenberg alone. None were cut for technical reasons, but as always, there’s room for polishing. When the release deadline came, we had to stop updating that system.
That’s a very broad question, and I don’t really know where to start. From animal eyelashes to accurate reconstructions of historical buildings, the game is full of small details that probably only a few players will notice, but together they contribute to the overall feeling of immersion and authenticity.
“Stuck” isn’t the right word. We chose to go with our own modified version of CryEngine, which serves us well and does exactly what we need. We have our own team at Warhorse Studios constantly upgrading and maintaining it, and I believe we did a hell of a job bringing the game to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation with such strong performance.

No, not at this moment.
No. We believe that the first-person mode conveys what we want to achieve most, maximum immersion.
I’m convinced there are, as we added quite a few easter eggs. On the other hand, I don’t know of any master list tracking who found what, so it’s hard to say.
I personally like Game Pass, but we currently have no collaboration in place. That said, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 performed amazingly well on the platform.

That’s a very important topic, but also a nuanced and sensitive one. What I can say is that we, as developers, care a lot about making games that players can return to, even years down the line.
We’ve honestly grown in pretty much every department, which is a good sign. Warhorse Studios is doing well and even opened a new office recently.
We’ll have a little break around Christmas, as the DLCs follow right after release. One would think that after the game launch, everyone can relax, but that’s not the case. So we’ll now wrap up all DLCs, have a longer winter break, and then come back with, probably, big new plans.
2025 was, and still is, extremely strong. While it’s hard to pick a single favorite, I think Blue Prince is quite interesting. Personally, I’m really looking forward to Anno 117, Pax Romana.
