Alan Wake Remastered Made No Royalty Revenue During Q1 2022

When we talk about cult classic games, Alan Wake is one name that is always in the conversation. The game originally came out in 2010 on the Xbox 360 and became a massive hit for the console. It made almost every top 10 year-end list and got rave reviews from players and critics alike. Seeing this success, Microsoft released a PC port in 2012 but the game didn’t release anywhere else. However, Alan Wake Remastered changed this as it launched on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles last year. Despite all the praise for the original game, the remaster didn’t perform very well. A new report from the developers suggests exactly that.

Recently, a report from the developer behind the game, Remedy Entertainment, tells us that the Alan Wake Remastered failed to recoup any development and marketing expenses. Epic Games Publishing is responsible for publishing the game and it didn’t earn back any money spent on the game’s development and marketing. So, Alan Wake Remastered failed to produce any fruitful returns from the publisher’s investment.

“We had no royalty revenue from Alan Wake Remastered during the first quarter as Epic Games Publishing has yet to recoup its development and marketing expenses for the game,” mentions the report.

Alan Wake Remastered has made no royalty revenue, as of March 31, according to Remedy Entertainment’s report. Epic Games Publishing spent a lot of money marketing this remaster for different consoles. It’s the first time the game came out on PlayStation consoles, and for next-generation at that. However, this release hasn’t been as successful as Epic Games Publishing hoped it would be.

Something like this is very worrying for the publisher, especially with the sequel coming out soon. Alan Wake 2 is scheduled to launch in 2023 and there is a lot of hype for this game. Players have been waiting for over a decade for this game, so expectations will also be high. However, Alan Wake Remastered not doing so well is a worrying sign for the franchise.

Numbers for Alan Wake Remastered may improve in the coming months, as a Nintendo Switch version of the remaster is scheduled to release in Fall 2022. So, maybe this port will help with the game’s sales since the Nintendo Switch is one of the best-selling consoles in the world right now. The game can still have a resurgence, so all is not lost yet.
