macOS Ventura is the newest addition to Apple’s gear. This software is the latest version of the world’s most advanced desktop operating system. macOS Ventura has added new and powerful creativity and continuity tools to ease and improve the Mac experience to new heights.
Apple states that this upgrade will take Mac to a new perspective, never before seen, “New tools like Stage Manager make focusing on tasks and moving between apps and windows easier and faster than ever, and Continuity Camera brings new videoconferencing features to any Mac, including Desk View, Studio Light, and more,” said Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple.
However, one more addition to macOS Ventura and one that stands out the most is the never-before-seen ability of the operating system to run AAA games, such as No Man’s Sky — coming out on both Mac and iPad later this year — and even GRID Legends and Resident Evil, on Mac devices using Apple Silicon SoCs.
Apple states that this new upgrade will allow AAA titles to run with ease, “The power of Apple silicon enables every new Mac to run AAA games with ease, including upcoming titles such as EA’s GRID Legends and Capcom’s Resident Evil Village. And since Apple silicon also powers iPad, game developers can bring their AAA games to even more users, like No Man’s Sky from Hello Games, which is coming to both Mac and iPad later this year.”
The name of this version is Metal 3, which is the most up-to-date one. “Metal 3, the latest version of the software that powers the gaming experience across Apple platforms, introduces new features that take the gaming experience on Mac to new heights and unleash the full potential of Apple silicon for years to come.”
Apple further states that the render and computing times are much better, which will enable developers to work on more diverse scenes, with fewer computing problems. “MetalFX Upscaling enables developers to quickly render complex scenes by using less compute-intensive frames, and then apply resolution scaling and temporal anti-aliasing.” The result is an accelerated performance that provides players with a more responsive feel and graphics that look stunning.
Furthermore, Apple says that these developers, through a new Fast Resource Loading API, can create higher quality textures. “Game developers also benefit from a new Fast Resource Loading API that minimizes wait time by providing a more direct path from storage to the GPU, so games can easily access high-quality textures and geometry needed to create expansive worlds for realistic and immersive gameplay.”
In the past, macOS has been more of a gag in the gaming community due to its inability to run AAA games, or even AA games, despite the Mac hardware being one of the most powerful and efficient out there. However, with the new features that Apple promises, this will surely be revolutionary for the Mac experience, as macOS will finally be able to run demanding games, particularly on the Apple Silicon SoCs.
