It is a widely accepted prediction that Virtual Reality is going to be the future of technology. No matter what niche we are talking about, VR will rule it in the near future. The gaming industry has unfolded the allure of VR technology, only broadening as time goes on.
Even though virtual reality has not entirely taken over, it is becoming more and more common. All the big companies like Sony are releasing their VR headsets and exclusive games for VR. The pioneer of VR in the gaming industry is arguably Meta Quest 2 by Facebook.
Rebranded specifically for the Metaverse, this VR headset has a lot of backing and support behind it. With a large player base using Meta Quest 2, Facebook works to improve the headset as much as they can. It isn’t perfect, but a recent update has removed a feature all of the fans hated.
Updates to the Meta Quest 2 through Build v43 have removed the mandatory Facebook login for the headsets. Now, you are no longer required to enter your Facebook details to use the device and can do without it. This has been a long-running feature of the headsets so removing it is a big change.
The release note cites, “You’ll no longer be required to log into your Meta VR devices with a Facebook account.” Your oculus profile will get the form of a Meta Horizon profile which you can customize. This rebrand will also dub all of your “Friends” as “Followers“.
So basically, the Meta Quest 2 profile will now follow a model similar to Instagram and not Facebook. Even with this change, you will still have the option to link your Facebook or Instagram accounts to your Horizon profile. You can unlock new related experiences through this but it is totally optional unlike before.
New controls for privacy management will also be coming to Meta Quest 2 in this update. This update has been rolling out since 8th August 2022, but the release has been gradual. So, you don’t need to worry if you haven’t got it yet.
Fans are really happy with this new announcement and the removal of the Facebook login. Having your real Facebook details to use your Meta Quest 2 was an annoying feature for fans and axing it does them a big favor. Hopefully, new features like this keep coming to the Meta VR headset so fans can enjoy it to the fullest.
