Should GTA 6 Make It Harder To Earn Money In The Campaign?

The answer is a resounding yes.

Rockstar’s continuation of the Grand Theft Auto franchise hopefully arrives next year, and not to go beyond the realm of what’s possible, but fans and players — myself included — have attached a series of expectations from the game, with some of them being admittedly outlandish. For those of us, however, who realize that there’s only so much that Rockstar itself is capable of, I believe I speak for all of the GTA fanbase when I say that the campaign mode needs to focus on some curated improvements this time around. 

It’s not like I’ve got a proper say in it, but it’s downright unsettling for Rockstar to not learn from some of the most prominent shortcomings of the single-player mode of GTA 5, where one can’t help but feel that the latter went on to receive absolutely no love from the developer post-launch. All the attention was focused on the Online counterpart. 

Heck, Rockstar even released a standalone version of GTA Online in March 2022, signifying its focus on the multiplayer aspect of GTA 5 while also detaching the “V” from the name of the title as well. So instead of GTA V Online, it would become GTA Online only.

Rockstar Has To Stop Treating The Campaign Mode Like An Afterthought

Now, one of my major gripes with the GTA 5 campaign is how effortless it can be to earn a crap ton of money, immediately stumbling upon that feeling of utmost completion and then going through the game with no sense of further accomplishment. Bear in mind that I’m on about the single-player campaign here only. 

Oh, and when I say treating the campaign like an afterthought, I mean having no proper regard for it post-launch, and diverting all resources to GTA Online instead. The latter is fun, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a dozen different problems associated with an open-world multiplayer game of any kind, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. That’s where the single-player mode should come in.

And let’s not forget about the DLCs of GTA 5 that Rockstar scrapped in favor of, you guessed it, GTA Online. Not a good move, buddy. Not at all.

So Much In-Game Money But Nowhere To Spend

So, here’s the deal. You get your first heist out of the way in GTA 5 in the single-player campaign mode, and you’re pretty much set for the entirety of the game, because first, the money coming in is in millions, and secondly, the game does not offer players a lot to spend on.

I feel like a total overhaul of the game’s financial system would work wonders for boosting immersion in GTA 6, but hey, we’ll have to wait and observe whether that turns out to be the case or not. Rockstar is hereby seriously requested not to discriminate between the online and offline modes as badly as it did last time.

Do me a favor: Fire up GTA Online and look at the types of vehicles available for you to purchase. Then switch over to the single-player mode and observe how your smile turns upside down. It feels as if the online aspect continues getting all the love from Rockstar, while the single-player mode gets swept under the rug, and I’m not being biased here

The Value Of The GTA Dollar Has To Feel Meaningful 

There is an increasing need of the GTA campaign to start letting the player have more control and subsequent liability over their finances, so the money they make has genuine value affiliated with it. For instance, things like having to pay for food and then food being a major mechanic of the game is an example of how Rockstar could make GTA 6 a lot more involved.   

Yes. I think the focus on heists kinda ruined the value of the GTA dollar. Once you finish the first one, you’re pretty much set. But more than that, they need to make the whole economy of the game better. More things to spend your money on. More things you NEED to spend money on. Yes I mean food, gas, and other things like that. Also bring back buyable safehouses and make them upgradeable. And bring back businesses you can buy and invest in. I’d even say early on you should be paying rent for a shitty apartment to illustrate the motivation and pressure to go into a life of crime,” says one Brahmus168 on Reddit.
