It feels like MultiVersus has come and gone without leaving a mark this year. Now, I’m not claiming that no one plays it anymore; it’s just that the brawler could have been so much more. The shoddy launch of the game months ago put such a bitter aftertaste in my mouth that I could never truly get into it. The core gameplay and fun fighting are all there, but then what went so wrong that the title ended up worse than it was in the beta?
The crux of the issue currently plaguing the game is not some huge game-breaking issue. It’s a motley of small impediments that have come together to ruin the bigger picture. For me, it’s the corporate greed of WB Games that has held back MultiVersus from becoming a major competitor to other brawlers in the genre.
So what decisions were made that brought a giant in the making down to its lowest? Let’s explore all the issues the game has faced since it launched after mysteriously disappearing for a year.
MultiVersus Seemed Promising Until It Launched
The open beta period had its fair share of problems, but it also seemed promising and was quite fun to play with others. The combat had that oomph that all these brawlers need, and every character felt enjoyable to use. It continued that way until MultiVersus would disappear for a year. The beta eventually started seeing a decline, with WB deciding to take it down and go off the radar for over a year until the official launch.
Many thought that the year-long silence was meant for devs to fix the game and implement all the feedback they had gathered. Unfortunately, the launch proved to be even worse than its open beta chronicles. What hurts many players is the fact that the core gameplay is not so bad. MultiVersus can still be an enjoyable game if you are willing to forgive and forget everything else and play blindly, that is.
Instead of fixing the myriad of problems, WB has focused more on squeezing out any monetary gains possible through predatory mechanics.
The Post-Launch Bugs And Changes Completely Ruined The Gameplay
The open beta of the game was supposed to signal the arrival of a greater version. However, the opposite seems to have happened; none of what the fans wanted was added. Instead, the changes that no one asked for have been force-fed to the community. When the brawler initially came out, the reaction of the players was quite pessimistic about the changes made to combat and other game mechanics.
As a hardcore fan of the beta, i'm officially moving on from multiversus 2024.

After MultiVersus launched, the combat became floaty and laggy. The gameplay itself seems to have become slower than it used to be, which has drastically reduced the enjoyment of fighting against other players. This was a huge turn-off for many players and one of the biggest gameplay criticisms.
Some other changes include the removal of offline play, no FFA mode with items, no more co-op vs AI, a lack of leaderboards, and the sort. All this further fueled the backlash against the brawler. A weird glitch was even causing players to automatically purchase skins, wasting their premium currency. Warner Bros. refused to refund those players who were affected.
Predatory Microtransactions Make It Hard To Enjoy The Game
Even if you’re able to get past all the aforementioned issues and enjoy MultiVersus for what it is, there are still microtransactions to deal with. The only real way to progress without losing any remaining brain cells is to dump a bunch of cash instead of grinding for characters for countless hours. But it’s pretty much impossible to have fun because of how the post-launch game economy is structured.
Multiversus is the ultimate example of how greed can kill a great game. You should avoid it.

There are no cheaper characters, expensive skins, no more battle pass XP after each match, and the like. You need to max out six characters to earn enough for one, but new characters need double the average price of 3K fighter currency. The worst thing is that you also cannot grind fighter currency since it’s only available through missions and events.
The characters and skins cannot be used in practice, and the replacement of the universal gold currency with three others also ruined the economy of MultiVersus. You also no longer earn various cosmetics, like profiles, icons, and badges for leveling characters, like in the beta.
The Future Of MultiVersus Is Not Looking Bright Unless A Lot Changes
All in all, the state of the open beta just fared much better for most players than MultiVersus’ post-launch saga. Keeping the aforesaid features and not making those downgrades would have benefited the experience a lot.
Warner Bros. can still turn things around for an otherwise promising brawler by listening to the piled-up criticisms and changing its approach from greedy to player-friendly mechanics. Because I doubt the brawler is going to last even a few years by the way things are progressing.
