Story Highlights
- RoboCop: Rogue City is a third-person shooter, coming from the devs of Terminator: Resistance.
- Fans of the IP who enjoy punishing criminals will find Rogue City a terrific single-player experience.
- The game does have its shortcomings, but at the end of the day, the positives outweigh the cons.
There are only a handful of movie franchises out there whose video game adaptations have truly done justice to their craft and vision. Over the years, the RoboCop IP did receive multiple game iterations to its name, but in my humble opinion, none of them get the whole idea as spot on as this latest rendition in the franchise, Rogue City.
Coming out about 6 months ago — more or less — RoboCop: Rogue City has stood the test of time, garnering positive reviews on platforms such as Steam and Metacritic and exhibiting terrific fan service for followers of the series, myself included.
Here’s everything that I feel the first-person shooter does well, and why you should pick it up in a heartbeat if you’re into story-driven narrative experiences. Oh, and it also happens to be discounted on PlayStation right now; no better time to go for it after all I suppose.
What RoboCop: Rogue City Gets Right
First and foremost, Rogue City really nails the spirit of RoboCop and makes you feel as if you’re in the shoes of Alex Murphy himself. The gait of the character, followed by his twists, turns, and sheer brute force that allows our cyborg trooper to catch frickin’ motorcycles mid-air and hurtle them at his enemies all come together to deliver a sublime experience.
I am seriously beyond impressed by how good Robocop – Rogue City looks, especially coming from a Double A studio like Teyon. from that awful Rambo game to this.

Following the accurate movement and entertaining gameplay, the next facet of Rogue City worth going over is the sheer visual quality, which is something that blew me away considering a smaller-scale developer has worked on the title. I mean, sure, there are areas where the game’s visual flaws really show, such as facial animations, but that’s hardly anything to lose sleep over when the rest of the game looks nothing but gorgeous.
As far as the rest of the gameplay goes, there’s no open-world bloat associated with it; the campaign is meaty and takes you places—that’s how I can talk about it in a spoiler-free way.
Staying Faithful To The Original Rarely Ends Up Unwell
Donning an old-school shooter feel, RoboCop: Rogue City is a masterpiece in the sense that it near-perfectly imitates Peter Weller from the live-action RoboCop movie series, which is quite well-liked across the board.
Of course, it does help when you get the actual man after all these years in your game playing the role of the protagonist, but I’m sure a lot of things could’ve still gone wrong; I’m glad Teyon was on the top of their game (no pun intended) about them.
Just finished RoboCop Rogue City, gotta say, no matter how the awards end up… This is my game of the year!

Now, as history would have it, the Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space remakes come to light in recent memory, since we’re on the topic of faithful reimaginations. I don’t have to go over the type of reception these two survival horrors experienced on launch, with one selling over 7 million copies and becoming a Game of the Year contender, and the other garnering immense critical acclaim for making a brilliant return.
Some Pointers To Be Wary Of When Playing Rogue City
Let me say this out loud: RoboCop: Rogue City is not your average first-person shooter, nor is it a AAA title that comes from a high-budget developer. Heck, did you know that Teyon — the creator of Rogue City — is the same studio that worked on Rambo: The Video Game? With the latter being highly regarded as one of the worst games ever made, Teyon has sure did come a long way from where it once was.
Nostalgia Often Comes At A Cost
Now, my point is, that there are still some pitfalls that you have to be wary of when starting RoboCop: Rogue City, as players have noted in recent times. First off, and I will say this with confidence because I wholeheartedly agree with it, Rogue City is heavily nostalgia-oriented, meaning that those who are fans of the RoboCop movie series and past games will enjoy it considerably more than the average person.

More so, I will even say that Rogue City could come across as a mediocre shooter for many, with the very same stiff movement that I praised above being one of the major complaints from the title. The complement for it from a moment ago came from a stan’s perspective, but I won’t let my bias misguide you from what’s true and what’s just nostalgia speaking.
PC Optimization Is A Turn-Off For Many
RoboCop: Rogue City is a bit rough around the edges, that’s something I see myself admitting. It seems to be a tad too demanding on the PC hardware requirements as well, requiring 16 GB RAM, an Intel Core i7-4790 CPU, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 at the very least to run on a basic rig.
Lastly, Rogue City was panned for poor optimization on launch, and while a lot of the glaring issues have since been sorted, some bugs still persist here and there. These are some of the reasons you might be put off by the first-person shooter, but at the end of the day, Rogue City holds its own extremely well for being a thorough, true-to-its-roots, and novel action game.
