Story Highlights
- Silent Hill 2 is one of the newest releases of 2024, coming out less than a week ago at the time of writing.
- The developer of the game, Bloober Team, has managed to put forth what is genuinely a work of art.
- The remake does not deviate much from the original, offering a super nostalgic yet high-end experience.
Well, this hill isn’t going to be silent any longer. In June 2021, Bloober announced that it’s joined hands with Konami to sign a “strategic co-operation agreement.” We fans at the time did not realize how well that would actually translate, because, with the level of quality on display here, Bloober has far surpassed expectations and not many of us hoped for things to be this way quite frankly.
The game’s even got the original Silent Hill 2 director to be “very happy” with the remake, making it quite clear that Bloober has outdone itself for the reimagining of this 2001 classic. However, it goes without saying that the pressure on Bloober’s shoulders was immense when the project kicked off, and at the very beginning of Silent Hill 2’s public reveal, sentiments were fairly switched.
Initial Impressions Were Harsh And Bloober Was Criticized
Silent Hill 2’s “combat trailer” was the first thing to make the entire perspective on the game shift drastically, going from hero to zero. A project like Silent Hill has no business showing off its combat specifically — even though it’s one of the many integral parts of the game — but in hindsight, I believe fans got off on the wrong foot with Bloober just because of this one instance.
Oh, you should’ve seen the comments on Reddit, Twitter, and YouTube. People went absolutely ballistic on the developer for not getting its head in the right space. This was all followed up quickly by Bloober Team’s CEO, who affirmed that said trailer does not reflect the remake’s true spirit and that Konami is responsible for how Silent Hill 2 is marketed.
This is neither the spirit of what once was nor what we are creating now. We are trying to fully reflect this vision of the game that made its debut 22 years ago. We think that when players see the real gameplay, a real game, they will evaluate it in a completely different way.”
Turns out, he was right. The game is as proper as they come, and there’s not a question about it.
Living Up To The Legacy Of The Original Was Hard As Is
To shed some light on the OG Silent Hill 2 that came out way back in 2001, the now-disbanded Team Silent made what is widely considered one of the greatest survival horror games in the business, both at the time and in retrospect. Living up to that type of legacy isn’t everyone’s forte, but here we are, with Bloober delivering on the mark on multiple levels.
As such, a lot of people had their doubts about the project back when it was announced by Bloober that it’s working on Silent Hill 2’s remake. There were concerns regarding the lack of communication and a general uncertainty in the air because Bloober has not worked on a project of this scale and level before. Its Polish roots, however, kicked in it seems, pushing out what is a supremely high-tier product.
Bloober Delivered, Offering Nothing But A Solid Experience
Pardon the slang, but the Silent Hill 2 remake absolutely slaps. Not only do the game’s over-the-top PS Store ratings prove how well the public has received this game, but Metacritic scores also throw light on the title’s grand reception.

The best part? The Silent Hill 2 remake, despite being a modern-day iteration, is as close to the original experience as it can get in terms of the atmosphere. The huge shift in the camera style that makes the title go from a more traditional third-person to an over-the-shoulder perspective is something that Bloober handled exceptionally well, retaining the essence of the Silent Hill moniker while keeping the gameplay beginner-friendly.
When’s The Next One Coming?
With all that said and done, we now have a strong case for another Silent Hill remake. Bloober must read this and go, “Give us a darn break.”
In all seriousness, fans — myself included — are definitely looking forward to the next Silent Hill remake à la Resident Evil titles, but we also realize that Konami is currently focusing on the rest of the Silent Hill projects that the publisher already announced earlier this year. These include Silent Hill: Townfall, Silent Hill F, Silent Hill Ascension, and Return to Silent Hill, which is a movie adaptation of the series.

In related news, though, Bloober’s Creative Director spoke up in an interview, explaining why the developer was tasked with remaking Silent Hill 2 first and not any other title. The statement is direct and clear, citing that this was purely Konami’s decision and that Bloober had no say in it whatsoever. Subsequently, it was also let out that the publisher has certain plans for the Silent Hill franchise.
Whatever that means really.
Yeah, Silent Hill 2 is the best match for us as Bloober Team, in terms of our DNA and the games that we’ve done and that we did previously. On the other hand, it’s not like we were making this decision, right? The franchise is connected to Konami’s plans.”
