Grounded is a brand new survival game developed by Obsidian Entertainment that you can either play offline solo or with friends online. Playing survival games with friends makes the experience more entertaining and worthwhile rather than playing them solo; thus, in this guide, we will cover how to join your friend’s world and how to invite them to your world in Grounded.

If this will be your very first survival game and you are still skeptical about whether it is worth your time, then consider reading our Grounded review, as it will give you a general understanding of the game. Now, without further delay, let us start our guide.

As soon as you start the game, you will see the Multiplayer tab in the main menu right below the Single Player tab. Select the Multiplayer tab, and the game will give you the option to either host your own online game or join someone else’s online game.

Join Online Game

First, we will cover how to join your friend’s world in the game. You will need to click on the “Join Online Game” tab, and it will take you to the screen that will show all the online worlds created by your friends from Steam or Xbox Live Account that you have access to join.

Host Online Game

Now, if you wish to host an online world or want a friend to join your current world in Grounded, then you’ll need to go into the “Host Online World” tab. This will give you the option to either create a brand new world or continue with an already available world.

If you decide to make a new world, then once you create the world, all your friends will be able to see it, but if you don’t want the world to be open for everyone, then you can also set a password.

If you decide to join one of your offline worlds, then the game will automatically make a server and make that world online for your friends to join. Aside from joining worlds, players also have the option to share worlds.

Standard And Shared Worlds

When you create a new world, the game will give you the option to either make a standard world or a shared world, as shown in the image above. The difference here is that the standard world will be the one connected to your Xbox Network account, and its save file will be saved in your account so your friends can only access it when you are online; otherwise, they will be locked out of it.

As for shared worlds, their saved files are saved online, not restricted to a single account, and anyone to whom you originally gave access to the world will be able to join it anytime they want.

That concludes our grounded how to join friends game guide. The game was published by Xbox Game Studios thus, it is available exclusively on Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. It is also available on Gamepass.
