It has been confirmed that Matthew Mercer will be reprising his role as Leon S. Kennedy in the upcoming CGI movie Resident Evil: Death Island. Mercer has previously voiced the renowned US Special Agent in Capcom‘s Resident Evil 6. While the game is undoubtedly the weakest of all mainline entries, Leon’s campaign is universally praised for being one of the highest points of the game.
Mercer is also renowned for his various performances aside from Leon. Having lent his voice to characters such as Leorio from Hunter x Hunter, Hit from Dragon Ball Super, and Pain from Naruto: Shippuden, Mercer has cemented his place in the industry. His roles also extend to other characters in video games, such as Walter from Shin Megami Tensei IV and Kitagawa Yusuke from Persona 5.
Death Island continues the line-up of CGI movies of the acclaimed video game series. Taking place in the main timeline, the moves have always provided insight into the characters’ lives between the events of the games. Death Island takes place in the period between Resident Evil 6 and 7 and is shaping up to be a huge deal amongst fans due to several factors.
Perhaps the most profound factor is the inclusion of all fan-favorite characters from the series. Iconic faces such as Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Rebecca Chambers, and Jill Valentine are all present in the same place at the same time. This, along with Leon and Jill coming face-to-face on screen for the first time ever, has fans excited for the release.
Resident Evil films have provided the community with some interesting value over the years. Ranging from fantastic action scenes to questionable plots, all the way to pristine quality memes. One of the definitive examples of such art is the fight sequence between Chris Redfield and Glenn Arias in Resident Evil: Vendetta.
Nevertheless, gaining momentum off of the success of Resident Evil 4‘s remake along with its memorable cast and high-octane action, Death Island might turn out to be one unforgettable experience. The film is set to release in July 2023.
