When presented with two identical doors, the narrator says, “When Stanley came to a set of two open doors, he entered the door on his left.”
This is the first of many choices one will make in The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, but fear not, these choices start merging themselves into a vast psychological mystery thriller that confuses even the most investigative player.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is about an office worker, Stanley, arriving at his office on a typical day only to realize no one is there. Delve into a psychological and reality-bending game that breaks the boundary on what’s considered normal.
The game really is a mess when it comes to deciphering it as it clearly contradicts itself at every turn, but that is the sole reason it is loved so much. The gameplay and story is not the only thing this title excels in, it also has a notorious identity when it comes to its achievements and its anti-cheats.
To put it bluntly, the narrator does not like the player moving around disturbing the Holy Sanctity of the game, that’s why if you cheat in the game, you get locked in the Serious Room, where if you keep using cheats, you’ll end up being locked away for a very long time.
Aside from the terrifying brown table from the Serious room, or the delve into the insanity that the game takes, one place where this game goes beyond, is the achievements.
Many achievements in the Stanley Parable are offputting but some are so straightforward that it actually becomes impossible for many players to ever accomplish.
An achievement titled “Go Outside” takes 5 years of shutting your game off, leaving your house, and touching some grass. An achievement as obnoxious as this seems almost impossible to complete, but the next one is even more absurd.
In the new reboot for The Stanly Parable: Super Deluxe, the game reintroduces this achievement, but with even harsher terms. The achievement titled “Super Go Outside” has the player leave the game for over 10 years, an entire decade for 1 single achievement.
In conclusion, you will probably forget the game exists by the time this achievement starts to come around. For more obnoxious achievements you should definitely stick with this series as seeing how its legacy is unfolding, it literally cannot disappoint.
