Multiple Assassin’s Creed Remakes Are In Development, Ubisoft CEO Confirms

We'll see many more games launching in the franchise.

Story Highlights

  • As per Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are in development.
  • The company is also working on making each mainline entry have a lot of variety.
  • No exact remakes have been revealed, but a few rumors have hinted at one of them.

Ubisoft has published a new blog discussing its upcoming portfolio and the future of the AC franchise. In a statement, company CEO Yves Guillemot also clarified that multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are in the works. It is an attempt to update some of the Ubisoft classics to bring those rich worlds up to par with modern times. He also touches on AC Shadows and explains that it will feature a dynamic weather system that affects gameplay.

Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich. Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety,” said the CEO.

While the Ubisoft CEO does not name any exact remakes, a few rumors have hinted at one of them. For instance, the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake was rumored to be in early development. An unnamed remake is also rumored—which some think could be the remake for AC1.

Assassin’s Creed IP Will See A Lot Of Variety In The Future

The Ubisoft CEO also reveals that besides remakes, the franchise’s mainline entries will also see a lot of variations. In other words, each Assassin’s Creed title will have different genres and elements that make them stand out. Yves uses the example of AC Hexe, which will be an entirely different experience compared to Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think.”
