Insider: Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Is A “Complete Bugged Mess Right Now”

Ubisoft is not in a position to take risks.

Story Highlights

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a new Assassin’s Creed game that was initially releasing in November 2024.
  • Ubisoft has decided to delay the game’s launch into 2025, citing more polish requirements as the reason.
  • An insider has revealed that the actual reason for the delay is that Shadows is a hot mess right now.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the next mainline Assassin’s Creed iteration, succeeding Mirage, and featuring a dual-protagonist nature that oscillates between Naoe and Yasuke. About three days ago, Ubisoft confirmed that it’s going to delay the upcoming action-adventure RPG, kicking its launch into 2025 as opposed to the title releasing on November 12, 2024, in the first place.

This is an ambitious addition to the franchise, a rich experience that can be lived through the eyes of two unique protagonists – but we realize we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features.

As such, we’ve made the decision to postpone the release date to February 14, 2025. The game will release on a broad range of platforms, including Steam at launch. Additionally, preorders will be refunded and all future preorders will be granted the first expansion for free.

We understand this decision will come as disappointing news, especially to those who’ve been waiting patiently for an Assassin’s Creed game inspired by Feudal Japan, but we sincerely believe this is in the best interest of the game, and ultimately your experience as a player.”

But here’s the kicker: According to PHBrazil, (skip to 3:37 if you know the language) a trusted insider who has a source working at Ubisoft, the real reason Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been pushed further ahead is that it’s a hot mess right now, and there’s no saying around it at the time.

Moreover, the leaker claims that Ubisoft’s decision to delay Shadows and not take its chances with a bugged launch comes from the recent disappointment of Star Wars Outlaws—an ambitious new project that has failed to live up to the company’s expectations.

Despite solid ratings (Metacritic 76) and user scores across the First Party and Epic stores (3.9/5) that reflect an immersive and authentic Star Wars universe, Star Wars Outlaws initial sales proved softer than expected,” briefed Ubisoft in a recent update.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Might Be Headed Toward Monetization Hell

Comprising combat gameplay for graphics — although I do agree it could be a bit too soon to make a firm statement like that — certain instances have made people lose faith in Assassin’s Creed Shadows i.e. possible live service elements and questionable pricing models.
