Story Highlights
- Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most prolific releases of 2024, featuring its own take on the Soulslike genre.
- The game was launched in August 2024 for PC and PS5, but an Xbox release remains indefinitely delayed.
- A new ESRB rating for Black Myth: Wukong, however, suggests that an Xbox Series release lurks around the corner.
Now here’s something that Xbox fans have been awaiting for quite a bit of time. A new ESRB rating on the official site locks in Black Myth: Wukong, giving it a “Teen” rating and subtly confirming that the title is due to launch on the Xbox Series X|S consoles soon. Usually, whenever an ESRB rating of a certain game goes live, an official announcement of that particular title comes out within 1-2 weeks of the rating.
Enemies emit blood when hit, and some explode into chunks of flesh when defeated. Battles are often frenetic, highlighted by impact sounds, cries of pain, and slow-motion effects. A handful of environments depict large bloodstains and animal carcasses; one sequence depicts a headless character with an exposed neck stump,” states ESRB’s description of the title.
This is a clear sign, therefore, to expect news pertaining to the game in the coming days.
Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox Release Has Stayed Behind The Curtains
It’s a bit too foggy on this front, really. Game Science, back when the title launched in August 2024, said the following about Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox version, citing the lack of enough “optimization” to be the reason for the delay.
We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”
As per insider information disclosed to eXputer exclusively, however, it was also reported that Black Myth: Wukong currently suffers a “memory leak” issue on Xbox that’s causing the sizable launch delay and the reason it keeps failing Microsoft’s certification. It might very well be that Game Science has worked things out with the industry giant, now that we’re a couple of months into Wukong’s releaase.
