Story Highlights
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the newest iteration in the long-running Call of Duty franchise.
- The game has now been deemed the biggest launch in the history of Call of Duty.
- The series itself has sold north of 500 million copies.
Hype for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been through the roof ever since its marketing kicked off earlier in May this year. Thanks to that, and, of course, the legacy of the franchise, we now have at our disposal the biggest Call of Duty launch in the history of the franchise, as confirmed by Microsoft in a Q1 earnings call. Despite Microsoft’s buyout of Activision, the title has remained multi-platform as well.
And, as we look ahead, our IP across our studios has never been stronger. Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players, as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day. And unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60% year-over-year.”
As someone who nopes out of Call of Duty fairly quickly, I’ve found Black Ops 6 more than just a pleasant surprise. A rock solid, creatively curated campaign, on top of enjoyable multiplayer maps, and the return of the traditional style of the Zombies mode are a few things that have me gripped, and I speak for many of us here.
In a separate article by The Washington Post, it’s been reported that the Call of Duty franchise has rolled over 500 million copies as a whole, thereby crossing the half-a-billion mark.
Right In Time For The Weekend
Ahead of the game’s release last week, the developer has slapped on an XP boost for the weekend in an attempt to boost player figures even more. I had plans for the forthcoming days before, but not anymore I guess.
Speaking of player figures, Black Ops 6’s Game Pass release day and date has welcomed a staggering increase of subscribers to the business model, and rightfully so. I mean, a world-class AAA title becoming a part of $9.99 per month subscription is wild. It’s surely one perk consumers can get when the parent company of the product makes a $69 billion purchase.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was released on October 25, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
