CD Projekt Red Is Allegedly Hiring To Add Multiplayer In Cyberpunk 2077’s Sequel

A multiplayer mode would work great in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Story Highlights

  • CD Projekt Red is allegedly hiring to add a multiplayer mode to Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel.
  • It is seeking a lead network programmer to lead a team to develop online experiences.
  • The director behind Cyberpunk 2077 has also considered adding multiplayer to the sequel.

CD Projekt Red is allegedly hiring to add a multiplayer mode to Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel (also known as Project Orion). The studio is seeking a lead network programmer to lead a team to develop online experiences. One could argue that the ad is for the multiplayer Witcher game, Project Sirius. However, CDPR has a separate hiring section for its subsidiary teams. Also given past rumors, the listing is more likely for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

As a Lead Network Programmer at CD PROJEKT RED you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems, and you will lead a team of talented engineers, working collaboratively to ensure seamless and robust online experiences,” reads the listing.

Cyberpunk 2077 was also supposed to have multiplayer elements, but plans were scrapped when things went awry. So, the notion is not too far-fetched. The vagueness of the listing also suggests that the role could span across multiple projects.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Game Director Is Also Considering Multiplayer For The Sequel

CD Projekt Red made mention of a multiplayer mode for the sequel earlier this year. A report by Reuters clarified that Cyberpunk 2077’s director, Adam Badowski, was thinking about adding “multiplayer elements” but would not “discuss details.” It’s difficult to guess whether this multiplayer mode would resemble GTA Online; CDPR could go a completely different route than any of us are expecting.

All in all, it is best to take the listing and the words of the game director with a grain of salt. Despite concrete evidence, the plans for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel could always change in the future, as the project is likely only in the skeletal stages of development at the moment.
