Story Highlights

  • Colossal Order has announced eight new free region packs for the game.
  • The developers have partnered with 35 renowned modders for the purpose.
  • The in-game regions take inspiration from real-world locations.

Colossal Order has announced plans for eight new region packs for Cities: Skylines 2, and the best part is that they will all be available for free. The studio has partnered with several well-known modders from the community to bring these free packs to the game. Unveiling the content through a YouTube video, the developers shared all the basic details with the fans while holding back on revealing a release date.

The free content known as “Region Packs” will be available “soon” via Paradox mods according to the official announcement. Each pack will be based on a different region and all eight combined will house a total of 2500 assets. A very interesting move by Colossal Order here is drawing inspiration for these regions from the architecture of several real-world locations.

The upcoming free packs for the city builder will be centered around regions such as Japan, the United Kingdom, the Eastern United States, the Western United States, China, France, Eastern Europe, and Germany. The developers have employed 35 content creators to ensure seamless execution of their plans, including some who may be recognizable from their past work in the modding community.

We’ve teamed up with some of your favourite creators, including Titan, bsquiklehousen, Darf, RichardShi, MacWelshman, Badi_Dea, Feindbold, Gurny, and many more, to bring you 8 Free Region Packs, coming soon to Paradox Mods!”

On a side note, Cities: Skylines 2 opened to a mixed reception at launch with criticism primarily directed at its performance issues. The developers even went to the extent of warning fans about these problems before the game’s launch. However, addressing the players’ feedback, Colossal Order’s CEO has pledged to achieve full optimization for the game while keeping fans updated through weekly reports.

The city-building sim was released on October 24, 2023, for PC. A port for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 is scheduled for launch in the spring of next year. In eXputer’s review, Asad rated the title 3.5/5, calling it an unfinished mess marred by optimization pangs and lackluster content.
