Story Highlights
Recently, World of Warcraft dataminers discovered an interesting detail about an unreleased mount present in the game files. Called the Algarian Stormrider, this is likely rewarded to players for purchasing the Heroic Edition of the upcoming expansion. Usually, the Heroic Edition mounts are linked thematically to the expansion set they’re a part of. Because of this, players have got a good idea of what WoW’s next expansion will be about.
While the leak doesn’t include a proper model for the mount, the name, even by itself, is a huge hint. It’s referring to Khaz Algar, a new location that players found out about in Dragonflight. This is thanks to the Observational Report: Earthen item found in the Uldaman Dungeon. The item talks about the existence of a group of Earthen Dwarves who succumbed to the Curse of Flesh, creating their own settlement.
World of Warcraft’s 11th expansion may take players to Khaz Algar, with this new faction of Dwarves playing a pivotal role in the story. Additionally, the other part of the mount’s name may also clue players in. Currently, a single Stormrider NPC exists in the game. This is a giant storm elemental found in the Storm Peaks, quite close to the Titan complex, Ulduar.
While Dwarves and Elementals might not look like they share a similarity, keep in mind the Wildhammer Dwarf tribe does exist. They’re known for being exceptionally attuned to the elements, with lightning and storms being their forte. So, it’s possible the group of Dwarves players encounter in the upcoming expansion has a connection to the Wildhammers.

Interestingly, the recent PTR patch for WoW had some Dwarven cosmetics too. The Dwarven Crown Splitter, a new Cosmetic Axe will be making its way to the Trading Post in the future. There’s also some Wildhammer-themed weaponry and armor that’s mentioned in the game files. However, previews of what these items look like, are currently unavailable.
While it’s mostly speculation so far, fans have still been having fun thinking through the possibilities. In fact, some even think players will be introduced to a fifth Old Gold in Patch 11.0. In any case, the expansion will likely be revealed in November, at this year’s Blizzcon. Until then, players will have to satiate their hunger through datamined leaks and PTR content from Patch 10.2
