  • The Call of Duty Twitter page made the response in a friendly exchange with a fan, confirming the emergence of the nostalgic mode.
  • The Infected mode features an infected user who has to infect the survivors before the time period elapses. The survivors have to survive and kill all the infected.
  • The Infected Mode previously also appeared in the Modern Warfare 2019 reboot, and players had anticipated its arrival in the new sequel.

Modern Warfare 2 launched to critical acclaim a few months ago, but it lacks some well-beloved classical features, including the nostalgic Infected mode. However, as confirmed by the Call of Duty Twitter page, the addicting mode will see an eventful return in Season 2.

The Twitter user Osvaldo Vega voiced his recollections about the Infected mode, noting that playing the hardcore mode on Call of Duty with friends is the “greatest feeling in the world.” Surprisingly, the Call of Duty Twitter page chimed in to issue an affirmation along with a date, which is the launch of Season 2.

The wholesome exchange between a fan and the Call of Duty page has professed one of the most surprising news for Modern Warfare 2 fans. However, it still left some of the community dazzled, considering the vagueness of the official response; the date could have meant the announcement of something else, after all.

Regardless, Infinity Ward was quick to follow with a more formal response, making an official tweet to cement the arrival of the Infected mode once and for all. The response from the developer team has undoubtedly cleared up all doubts budding within the Modern Warfare 2 community.

The fan-favorite Infected mode was nowhere to be seen at the launch of MWII, leaving fans wishing to relish the bone-chilling infected-killing experience again with a group of friends. However, now we will see its return with quite a twist, in next-gen visuals and great optimization, for the first time in the recent Call of Duty timeline.

The Infected mode in Call of Duty has shared an interesting history, often making appearances in some installments and always taking off in popularity due to its simplistic yet enjoyable objective.

In the Infected mode, one random user is chosen as the “infected” at the start of a match, and he has to infect as many players as possible. The infected user is given no proper weapons but only power and enhanced speed, which helps in chasing the scared survivors relentlessly.

On the other hand, the survivors have to ensure they do not end up getting infected and survive until the time period is over. The match ends when the lobby is exhausted from any survivors or if the survivors survive long enough until the time period elapses.

The Infected mode has previously been featured in Modern Warfare 3, released in 2011. Since then, different variants of the mode have appeared in plenty of entries, including Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare, and the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.

Modern Warfare 2’s upcoming season 2 is also chock-full of other new content to explore. The community is delighted to hear about the inception of the Infected mode once again in only two weeks. However, we could also see the return of more classic modes and features in the following seasons, though only time will verify that.

The sequel to the 2019 reboot launched to critical acclaim, garnering positive reception for retaining the olden allure of previous prominent entries. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has proven to be the best-selling game of 2022 in the United States. It also has managed to overtake various AAA releases like the God of War Rag well.
