Story Highlights
- Dying Light is Techland’s flagship zombie survival franchise, now welcoming a new iteration.
- Dying Light: The Beast is a standalone expansion to the second game in the series, Dying Light 2.
- Those who own the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 will get the DLC at no extra cost, Techland confirmed.
Being a die-hard Dying Light fan, I was bummed at the sight of Dying Light 2’s protagonist being confirmed, and him not being Kyle Crane again. This is not to say that Aiden is poorly built in that regard, but OG followers of the franchise realize what Crane brought to the table. Therefore, you can only imagine my excitement to see the legend of Harran finally making a comeback with the onset of Dying Light: The Beast.
Techland has recently created a separate page for the standalone expansion on its official website, leaving in an FAQ section at the bottom as well. The question, “I have Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Ultimate Edition and I was promised a story DLC as part of the package – will I get it?” gets promptly answered by the following,
We are grateful to our community that supported us since the launch of Dying Light 2 and has been patient with us. To show our appreciation, we will be offering Dying Light: The Beast at no extra cost to all owners of the Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition. We hope that upgrading your experience from a story DLC to a full standalone game will make up for the time you have been waiting.”
Well, technically, Techland did say (check under the About This Content section) that those who purchase the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 would get both story expansions for free. The Bloody Ties DLC is already out, but the second one, according to Techland, was scrapped because a “story leak” made the developer rethink the narrative. Now, therefore, you get Dying Light: The Beast instead.
It’s good to see that Techland has held up its end of the bargain.
Dying Light: The Beast Is Set In An All-New Location
Called “Castor Woods,” it’s confirmed that Dying Light: The Beast will feature a brand-new location as compared to its predecessors, and the plotline too is somewhat of a thriller. As per Techland, Crane was held captive and has been since “experimented” on. His agenda now is to go after his captors, but, of course, that’s only surface-level knowledge.
Currently, The Beast has no release date, but Techland is getting to a point where it’s comfortable for them to make an announcement. As for Dying Light 2, that one came out in February 2022, earning a 4/5 in eXputer’s review.
