The CEO of FromSoftware and Elden Ring director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has clarified that the game still harbors a small, undiscovered element. The dev appeared in an interview with IGN to discuss the importance of unknowns and secrets that make the Souls-like genre what it is today. Therefore, he is looking forward to the players stumbling upon the hidden element two years after the title launched.
For me personally, there is a small element that I feel has not yet been discovered. So, whether that’s up to user interpretation or up to just further investigation and playing, that’s something I’m looking forward to. […] I think it’s a question of when and not if, but there may be something small still missing.”
The harsh landscape of Elden Ring holds no hands, and its secrets are equally well-hidden despite the proactive community always hunting for them. Miyazaki mentions that they add to the intrigue of the open world, creating a sense of discovery for long-time players who feel like they found something they were not supposed to.
The dev believes the game needs “unknowns” to amplify the challenging experience. So, he trusts that the players will eventually make these discoveries.
