Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is a remake of the original Final Fantasy 7 story without the liberties taken in the 2020 remake. The game also includes entirely brand-new events not present in either the original Final Fantasy 7 or its remake, of note is a chapter that delves into the backstory of FF7’s primary antagonist, Sephiroth. Ever Crisis launched in September for Android and iOS and is a free-to-play role-playing gacha title.
Ever Crisis has been a highly anticipated entry in the Final Fantasy series for many fans who were disappointed by the creative liberties in the FF7 Remake. It also employs the ATB combat system which has been a hallmark of the series from its early PS1 and NES roots. The story itself is told through chapters that release overtime, similar to other popular gacha games like Mihoyo’s Genshin Impact.
With the success of titles like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, gacha games have become increasingly popular overtime. Square Enix themselves have dabbled into Gacha numerous times with games like SINoALICE and NieR Reincarnation, directed by Yoko Taro of NieR/Drakengard fame. Even so, there is always a stigma surrounding the pay-to-win nature of these games.
Despite that however, Ever Crisis has been a massive success for Square Enix, garnering over 2 million downloads soon after its launch on mobile. The numbers are only expected to go up with the release of the Steam version. As far as consoles are concerned, there is currently no definite statement about a console release.
