When it comes to open-world RPGs, no game comes close to Genshin Impact in popularity as well as cultural influence. Developed by a China-based video game publisher and developer, miHoYo, it was released on 28th September 2020 for PC, iOS, Android, and Playstation 4.
Because Genshin Impact’s release coincided with the worldwide pandemic, it became an instant hit. The anime-style characters and voice acting added to its charms. The game also periodically adds new quests and characters to the story, which makes the player keep playing the game.

Genshin Impact earned the biggest proportion of revenue from China with “$1.2 billion just on iOS.” Excluding China, Genshin Impact has been the second most profitable game internationally just behind Roblox and ahead of Candy Crush, as a sensor tower report said,
Outside of China, Genshin Impact ranks No. 2 for mobile game player spending, racking up $2.5 billion internationally across the App Store and Google Play. It ranks above Candy Crush Saga from King at No. 3 with $2.3 billion, and just behind Roblox from Roblox Corporation at No. 1 with $2.5 billion.”
Japan and USA are the second and third most profitable countries for Genshin Impact, earning 24% and 17% of global revenue, respectively.
In China, Apple App Store accounted for “68% of global revenue” while Google Play 32%. Figures are more balanced globally with 48% for Google Play and 52% for App Store.
These figures are evidence of Genshin Impact’s continued success. miHoYo also plans to launch the game for Nintendo Switch. Currently, the game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS.
