Helldivers 2 Increases Player Cap To 700,000; Server Queues Still Expected

Players should have a lot less trouble logging into Helldivers 2.

                                                                             Story Highlights

  • Helldivers 2 is a 4-player co-op shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios.
  • To maintain server stability, Arrowhead placed a 450,000 concurrent player cap in the game.
  • According to Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt, the player cap has now been lifted to 700,000.

Looking forward to spreading democracy this weekend but afraid of the server queues? Worry not as Arrowhead has finally increased the player cap for the Helldivers 2 servers. Just a few hours ago, Arrowhead CEO Pilestedt confirmed via Twitter that the cap for concurrent users has been increased from the previous 450,000 to 700,000, but still expects the player count to reach the cap.

For the past week or so players have been struggling to get into Helldivers 2…literally! Players have been unable to access the game because the servers are always full. The issue is so bad that the creative director directly suggested a player against spending his last precious moolah on Helldivers 2 until at least the servers have been fixed. Hopefully, this change will make things a lot more convenient.

Soon after launch, Arrowhead capped the player counts to 450,000 to ensure server stability as players were reporting trouble while trying to get into matchmaking. A patch also shipped out earlier today which adds an AFK timer to the game, automatically kicking out players who have been inactive for more than 15 minutes. This alleviates an issue where players were perpetually staying logged in to avoid dealing with server queues.

Early into 2024, Helldivers 2 was one of the year’s first major hits. The game was released on February 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 and PC and immediately became a mainstream hit. With numbers shooting past industry giants like Destiny 2, it’s safe to say that players have every bit of intention for the perseverance of democracy as the game continues to reach new milestones.
