These lucky players are the backers of the original release all those years ago, from Duke and likely the subsequent tiers. This piece of good news was discovered when the Redditor u/Interinactive received an email from the company, which was later confirmed to be true when PCGamesN contacted the studio.

The email thanks the player for the “gracious crowdfunding support,” asking the player to choose the appropriate platform on which they intend to receive the free key.

Because of your backer tier, the upcoming sequel will be for free for you, and we’ll deliver it at the release via key to this email address. To deliver it to the right platform for you, PC/Steam, PS5 or XBox Series X/S, you need to choose,” reads the email.

And as you’d suspect, many players on Reddit and the overall community have praised the gesture. It’s seldom that devs remember and consider the backers of an original game when it comes to a sequel.
