The Metal Gear Solid Remasters Will Not Have Keyboard/Mouse Support On PC

Disappointing news for PC players.

                                                                            Story Highlights

  • Metal Gear is a series of stealth action games developed by Konami and started in 1987.
  • The Master Collection Vol.1 is a collection of the first five Metal Gear games set to release on modern consoles for the first time.
  • According to a disclaimer on a now-removed Steam store page, the collection will not have keyboard and mouse support on PC.

If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection on PC, we have some disappointing news for you this time. According to a now-deleted store page of the Master Collection, none of the remastered titles will have keyboard and mouse support for the PC versions of the game. The disclaimer on each entry’s store page confirms that a controller is required to play the games.

The deleted store page for Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty.

What’s confounding is that this would almost place the Master Collection below the original PC ports of MGS 1 and 2, as both games run natively on a mouse and keyboard. We should also this should be taken with a grain of salt, the store pages for the 3 titles have since been removed from Steam, so it is somewhat likely that this was just a mistake.

If not, then it’s a fairly disappointing detail for what is essentially the definitive edition of one of the most influential video game series of all time, especially for PC fans who have spent over a decade waiting for this collection. Before this, the only way to play the series on PC in any capacity was through emulation or shoddy ports that required fan patches to work.

The Master Collection Vol.1 contains the first 5 entries of the series. This includes:

  • Metal Gear 1
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Details about Vol.2 of the collection have also leaked showing that an alleged remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4 is also coming soon. This makes it the first time the game will ever release on a console outside of the PlayStation 3. A remake of MGS3 is also in the works by Virtuous Studios. The remake is called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and will launch at an unspecified date for Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
