Microsoft Restores Matchmaking Functionality For The Original Gears Of War Trilogy

Although not officially announced, servers for the original trilogy appear to be back online.

The servers for the classic Xbox titles, Gears of War trilogy have reportedly been revived by Xbox. The latest reports inform that the multiplayer for the original trilogy has been made fully functional. Matchmaking is fixed for all three shooter titles. The match finder for Gears of War 1 is now up and running, as well as recent fixes for matchmaking in Gears of War 3.

Xbox seems to be working on Gears of War servers since June this year. The servers for the third entry in the series were fixed on June 14, as it returns to the dedicated servers. While, as of today all three games are fully set for an enhanced multiplayer experience. 

You might still face an issue with loading the game properly. There’s an issue where the game loads partially. All the updates are downloaded but the servers remain deactivated. In that case, try restarting your game until it loads correctly.

The third-person shooter series has a successful history but over the years, the matchmaking features could not keep up with the gaming advancement. Gears of War 3 being one of the most played titles of the trilogy faced multiple and recurrent complaints about matchmaking issues exhausting the overall multiplayer experience for the players. But with the latest fixation, we expect the players to flood right back in.

As Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is almost inevitable now, the company seems to be celebrating its victory with fans. Earlier this week, old Call of Duty servers were revived and matchmaking issues were fully fixed making thousands of players return to the classic CoD titles. The immense traffic on the platform has seemingly convinced Xbox on bringing more vintage titles back to life.

Both of the aforementioned titles by the way are backwards compatible and playable on all Xbox consoles. The games can be played at an upscaled resolution right out of the box on your latest console with added bonus of more advanced features. But if you are looking for some crisp nostalgia revival on your Xbox 360, the original servers are back online, thanks to Xbox. 

The Gears of War game series, a creation by Epic Games and owned by Xbox Game Studios, made its debut in November 2006 on Xbox 360. With a captivating concept centering around the conflict between humanity and humanoids, this third-person shooter series quickly became renowned as one of the most engaging titles of its era.
