New PlayStation 5 Slim Trailer Preps The Unit For Launch

The console is expected to launch on November 10.

Story Highlights

  • The PlayStation 5 Slim is a revised version of the original PS5 console.
  • Being a part of Sony’s mid-gen refresh, the PS5 Slim launches on November 10.
  • PlayStation has revealed a new trailer for the console ahead of its imminent release.

Sony unveiled the first PlayStation 5 with a fancy-end reveal video about three years ago, making way for the next generation of PlayStation consoles to come through. Now, the industry tycoon is preparing to make a revisited version of the PS5 to make official landfall, likely on November 10 as per different listings and rumors, and in doing so, it’s just unveiled a brand-new trailer for the forthcoming console.

The trailer focuses on multiple PlayStation exclusives, particularly God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Returnal, The Last of Us series, and others, putting the video’s main character in different game-like scenarios. The trailer is an attempt at emphasizing the PlayStation 5’s next-gen immersion thanks to a swath of first-party exclusives.

I have both a PS5 and Series X but prefer to play with the DualSense because of the feel of the haptics, adaptive triggers, and built-in speaker. It just adds that extra layer of immersion,” says one comment on YouTube under the trailer, highlighting what PlayStation 5’s controller brings to the table for this generation of video game consoles.

It bears mentioning that the PS5 Slim traces its announcement back to early October, when Sony said that the new unit, eventually replacing the existing PlayStation 5 console, would be officially rolling out in November. The revisited model of the system boasts a bigger 1TB SSD, a sleeker design — as expected — and the option for the digital variant to attach a disk drive later on that has to be bought separately.

Now that November is here, one would expect Sony to release the new console with a bang, but there’s no word on the matter yet. However, that hasn’t stopped various retail platforms, such as Walmart, from selling different editions of the PlayStation 5 Slim ahead of time, such as this Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 bundle, although the listing mentions that the product is out of stock at the moment.

In other news, some folks have happened to get the PlayStation 5 Slim — now that they’re out in the wild — and size comparisons between the old and the new consoles have revealed significant differences. As per Sony’s promise “reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24%,” the slimmer variant is fairly smaller in size if you put it side by side with the previous iteration of the PlayStation 5.

As for the prices, the device’s physical variant costs $499, the same as before, but the digital edition will now set users back about $449, which is a $50 increase in the US. The detachable disk drive accessory, on the other hand, comes for $79.99 and Sony will sell a vertical stand for the PS5 Slim too, priced at $29.99.
