If you have been looking into gaming news, you may have heard of a mystery console from Microsoft. The internal name of the console in question is Lockhart, which may be your console of choice for next-gen gaming. The leaked specifications of the console suggest that it would play games at 1080p/1440p resolution with a focus on 60FPS. These include 7.5GB of usable memory and a GPU that is very similar to Xbox One X’s GPU if we consider computing power (4 TFLOPS). However, it would be based on the RDNA 2 architecture.
Microsoft may reveal the Xbox Series S (codenamed: Lockhart) in August. According to a report from Eurogamer, Microsoft wanted to surprise its customers by a reveal of a low-powered next-gen console during E3. It all stems from Microsoft’s marketing strategy that the company announced in May. Microsoft would reveal information regarding the console(s) and its services every month until the release month. So far, we have had only one event in May, where third-party developers showcased their products. It didn’t go well as Microsoft promised next-gen gameplay, but we only got pre-rendered footage of games.
Microsoft has already announced its plans for the July event, but what about the June event? Well, the short answer is Coronavirus, as the July event was supposed to be during E3. Now the good news is Microsoft may reveal the console in August. According to a leaked internal document, the big July reveal will now happen in August, and a reasonable guess would be the reveal of the Series S console.
Regardless, one should focus on the July event, which, according to Microsoft, will be better than the May event. Moreover, it would show the result of the takeovers that Microsoft did in the year 2018-19.
