Eggman Could Be Playable In Sonic Superstars

New details about Sonic Superstars seemingly imply that Eggman might be one of the playable characters in the game. A Twitter user, @TailsChannel, pointed out several preorder details related to the box art. Eggman is getting a new LEGO skin, hinting that there might be a slight chance that he is no longer just an NPC.

Currently, there are a total of about four playable characters confirmed for the new Sonic entry. Players could pick Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy for their playthrough. Eggman is scarcely seen as a playable character in any classic Sonic game, and the franchise has a chance to change that now. 

Considering the newly added skin, there might be a small ray of hope for fans. However, take this implication with a grain of salt, as there is no official confirmation from the developers. It is possible that the skin is likely released for the NPC Eggman. It is not uncommon for developers to release new skins for nonplayable characters. 

Sonic Superstars is a new platform game scheduled to release soon. It is confirmed to release later this year. The latest entry features classic 2D gameplay with innovative and upscaled 3D graphics in the background. The title includes two-act zones like the kind in the classical Sonic games that players will complete to progress. It also adds a local multiplayer mode, allowing four players to participate simultaneously. 

Players are familiar with local split-screen co-op gameplay in classic Sonic entries. Tails and Knuckles were often featured in many titles. Amy was rarely seen in old entries. However, the developers decided to give her more credit in the new entry by making her playable. Fans can only hope that Eggman gets similar treatment.
