Story Highlights:
- Co-founder of Xbox Era and industry insider Shpeshal Nick teased the possibility of a Soul Calibur remaster in the latest episode of his Xbox Era Podcast.
- Nick has mentioned that it could be a remaster of the first few games or just the first Soul Calibur game.
- It is also likely that game will be on Game Pass.
It seems a remaster for Soul Calibur 1 or the first few Soul Calibur games is in development. The news comes from the co-founder of Xbox Era, Shpeshal Nick who mentioned that a Soul Calibur remaster is currently in the works at Bandai Namco during the latest episode of his Xbox Era podcast. The specific statement can be found at the 2:09:12 timestamp in the video.
Nick mentions that it is unclear whether it is a remaster of the first game or a collective remaster of the first few games, following that by saying that the game could also possibly launch on Game Pass. The Soul Calibur series itself was one of the pioneers of 3D fighting games and at the cutting edge of video game graphics in its time, showcasing the power of 3D graphics on the SEGA Dreamcast.
The first game also received a fan-made remaster back in 2019 through an AI-enhanced texture pack which could be applied via a Dreamcast emulator. While it’s a rumor for now, the last entry in the series, Soul Calibur VI released all the way back in 2018, and with many fighting games of that time such as Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 getting sequels this generation, it’s not hard to see a possibility of this being in Bandai Namco’s pipeline.
- Talking about Street Fighter, here’s what I think about the upcoming Street Fighter VI.
CAPCOM also released a remaster of their many…many old fighting games last year with the Capcom Fighting Collection which included titles such as Darkstalkers and its sequels, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Red Earth etc.
As always, we suggest taking this with a grain of salt as there are currently no official confirmations regarding this remaster.
