Venom’s Voice Actor Says Spider-Man 2 Is Launching This Fall

A publicity push for the game will start in August with commercials, according to Tony Todd.

Story Highlights

  • Spider-Man 2 will launch on PlayStation 5 this September, according to the Venom voice actor Tony Todd.
  • A big marketing push will begin this August and include commercials.
  • The actor also told fans to “hold their breath,” hyping up the sequel even further.

The much-anticipated sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man is apparently going to launch this September. Venom’s voice actor Tony Todd has told fans that Spider-Man 2 will finally hit the shelves this fall. In addition, he also revealed some info about the game’s marketing, saying a publicity push will start in August. As per the voice actor, the marketing will be “massive,” and commercials for the Marvel game will start dropping during August.

Previous reports have also estimated that Spider-Man 2 would launch around this period. Jamie Mayer, one of the writers working on the sequel, also let the fall release date slip back in December. She forgot to edit out this time period from the credits section of her website, and fans got to it like they always do. Hence, Tony Todd has now corroborated this unofficial launch window, first leaked by the writer, via his tweet.

The voice actor also told fans to “hold their breath.” Even though this is just Todd hyping up the sequel, it does get us excited for Spider-Man 2. You can understand why that is when you consider how successful the first game was. 2018’s Spider-Man is the best-selling PlayStation 4 game in the console’s history.

Furthermore, it sold 3.3 million units in just the first three days of its release and broke sales records all around the globe. Due to this performance, Spider-Man became the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive, overtaking 2018’s God of War. The superhero game also surpassed the $117 million Spider-Man: Homecoming made in its first weekend at the box office, which was an unprecedented feat.

Besides leaving all of the other Spider-Man games in the dust, it also became the highest-selling superhero title of all time in just one year. Hence, the 2018 action-adventure title was a massive success for developer Insomniac Games, selling 20 million units by 2020. You might have already guessed how the Marvel title got universal praise from both critics and fans alike.

As one of the most critically acclaimed video games of 2018, Spider-Man received numerous Game of the Year nominations. The Insomniac title also won many more accolades and dominated the market post-release with its 3 DLCs. Insomniac announced and released a spin-off, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, in 2020 to similar success.

As of July 2021, the spin-off has sold over 6.5 million copies globally, making the shorter title a huge triumph for Sony. Overall, the series has sold over 33 million copies worldwide after accounting for the PlayStation 5 remaster and the spin-off. With this anticipated sequel about to arrive this September, these numbers are only going to increase.

Besides one trailer, not much has come to be revealed, and all we know is that Tony Todd’s Venom might be the primary antagonist. Insomniac will probably show more footage and provide more details about Spider-Man 2 in the rumored Summer PlayStation Showcase, but only time will tell.
