The Invincible Initial Sales Result Fails To Meet Projected Budget Expectations

The projected budget remains to be met.

Story Highlights

  • The Invincible has seen a critical rating after launch but the initial title sales have not met expectations.
  • The game sold a huge $790k amount without counting boxed copies and store cuts. The total budget was over $4 million.
  • It launched on November 6, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.

The Invincible appears to be facing a major issue despite basking in critical inception after launch. As reported by Gamepressure, a new report by Bankier reveals that the initial sales for the game have fallen short of the massive budget that was exhausted by the title. The sales have not reached anywhere close to the projected budget expectations by the devs. The lack of overall sales has surprised the game’s growing community.

The title’s revenue amounted to a staggering $790,000 in sales before slashing away the revenue cut taken by the stores. The calculations after roughly estimating the sales suggest that about 25,000 copies have been sold on the platform. The Invincible sales have been calculated over a week since its launch —from a period of November 6 to November 13. Additionally, the physical version of the sales is not counted in the total weekly record.

The Invincible’s sales seem quite good until you take a look at the total budget that was exhausted. The $790k revenue sales are overshadowed by the reported $4,200,000 budget that was used to craft the alluring sci-fi thriller. A bit over $2 million was invested by the publisher of the entry, 11 Bit Studios. The projected budget appears to be around $4 to $4.5 million, but it failed to reach even a single million in sales during its first week.

Other Interesting Reads:

The budget includes a bit of everything, including the game development cost, localization, marketing expenses, and more. It is clear that the first week of the entry is looking quite grim despite the contentment of its players. Cutting a giant portion from the current sales to make up for the store costs and planned updates costs will further reduce the remaining revenue. However, the number of boxed copies sold is still unclear.

Featuring around 10 hours of gameplay and many pessimistic endings, The Invincible is quite endearing in its aesthetics and reimagination of the novel and appeals to the masses. It was released on November 6, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Unfortunately, no last-gen release is in the brewer for the future, but you can play it on Nvidia GeForce Now. A VR version of the game is also planned in the near future.
