Treasure is an olden company that explored the unique concepts of gaming many decennia ago. The company made a name for itself in the shoot-em-up action platform genres, often experimenting by blending them together. The studio founded by former Konami employees became the talk of the town in the early 90s by growing a cult following in action games and shone in the PlayStation 2 era.
After shining in the early 90s, The alluring studio developed 12 titles between 2000 and 2006 and has released valuable titles like Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun. Treasure has also earlier shook hands with Nintendo and released Wario World.
Treasure as a company now sits dormant as fragments of happy recollections in gamers’ minds. Their latest series, a pair of 3DS games in the Gaist Crusher series, was released almost a decade ago, and there has been little to no activity in the studio since then until just recently.
Now in a hibernating state, Treasure is still very much alive. The studio incorporates ten employees, and it appears they have figured out their next objective. Treasure Co., Ltd. is officially working on the following “highly requested” title, as cited in a tweet on June 19, 2022, hailing the studio’s 30th anniversary.

The tweet roughly translates to, “This year, the 30th anniversary, we are working hard to announce the highly requested ‘that’ title. We look forward to your continued support of Treasure.” Treasure has not elaborated on the nature of the project. The studio could be revisiting an earlier IP they collaborated on with Nintendo or working on a new one altogether.
The chances of a new IP appear bleak considering Treasure’s low employees and stagnant state. If the upcoming title is a sequel, then Ikaruga seems to be the most fan-favorite choice, as wished by many players. Moreover, this future release could simply be a collection since Treasure mainly deals with re-releases of their traditional titles.
