Ubisoft Teams Up With Double Jump Tokyo To Work On Its NFT Multiplayer RPG

Again with the NFTs.

Story Highlights

  • Ubisoft has partnered with Double Jump Tokyo to work on its Web3 online RPG, Champions Tactics.
  • The company also wants to accelerate “the worldwide adoption of Web3 gaming technology.”
  • The PvP entry is in development for PC. The devs plan to launch it sometime this year.

It appears that Ubisoft is still in deep pursuit of integrating Web3 and NFT technologies into gaming. It has partnered with Double Jump Tokyo to work on its current NFT project, an online experimental multiplayer RPG dubbed Champions Tactics. The press release mentions that the partnership aims to accelerate “the worldwide adoption of Web3 gaming technology.”

We think this partnership will offer valuable insights on how decentralized technology can mix with gaming. Together, we look forward to delivering high-quality, entertaining gameplay that harnesses blockchain technology,” says Ubisoft’s Web3 Technical and Product Director, Didier Genevois.

The partnership will let Ubisoft issue new in-game NFTs in the form of profile pictures over the Oasys Layer 2 HOME Verse blockchain. As explained in the FAQ, these “Warlord” NFTs will grant players unique PFPs and exclusive early access to the upcoming in-game playable figurines called Champions.

Ubisoft Has Already Faced Much Backlash Because Of Its NFT Projects

Ubisoft has been one of the leading conglomerates to push Web3 and NFT technology into gaming. The studio’s biggest attempt in 2021, Project Quartz, failed miserably after almost every gamer lashed out against it. It did not help that attaining NFTs had high requirements, which resulted in poor sales and low player interaction. Now the company is trying to bounce back and give NFTs another try despite the vocal scorn of most gamers.
