Story Highlights
- Valve is currently working on a mysterious entry.
- The title supposedly has “never been seen before” gameplay and mechanics.
- Puzzles have allegedly been designed within the levels of the game.
Valve is working on an unannounced title that would feature puzzles and “never seen before” gameplay. The project is currently in the works, as depicted by Michael Anderson on LinkedIn, who has worked as a Level Designer for said unknown title up until this year. In addition, Boyang Zhu is currently working as the Artist for presumably the same project.
According to the details of the jobs, the team is supposed to develop “ambitious” gameplay that would include various puzzles for players to solve. However, the game mechanics and features are unclear as not much is written in the description. Anderson’s job details state,
Created a variety of prototypes with my team focused on ambitious, never-before-seen gameplay for an unannounced project. Developed AI, player mechanics, and puzzles from scratch. Worked to refresh hiring/interview processes.”
Michael Anderson seems to be working on the project from 2021 to 2023 before he started working on Gravity Well. Boyang Zhu, on the other hand, started working as an artist for the game in 2022. This means that the unannounced title is currently in the works for almost two years. Furthermore, we can also assume that the level designs for the new game are most likely completed because Anderson is no longer working on the game.
It’s likely that what we have here in the brewer is finally a new Portal game, given the inclusion of the puzzle element. Still, it’s too early to assume things on our own, so do take this information with a grain of salt. The term “Never before seen gameplay” is vague, and at this point, no further guesses regarding the title’s mechanics can be made. The entry’s current progress is unknown, and no details are shared.
