Mortal Kombat 12 Possibly The Upcoming NetherRealm Studios Game

NetherRealm Studios could be making Mortal Kombat 12 now

NetherRealm Studios has been in charge of the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchise for nearly a decade now. In association with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the company has released a bunch of Mortal Kombat and Injustice instalments — most of which have sold well. Since the release of Mortal Kombat 11, we haven’t heard much from the company. However, that has changed now, as Jeff Grubb says that Mortal Kombat 12 could possibly be NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming game!

Jeff Grubb is well-known in the gaming community for his rather promising information regarding upcoming games. In a recent episode of his weekly gaming industry news show, he talks about the future of NetherRealm Studios. Particularly, he talks about which game the company could be releasing next. “As far as I’m aware, we haven’t heard any news from NetherRealm, exactly, about what they’re working on next and, uh, that’s a big question,” he says.

“I think I said it was gonna’ be Injustice 3 or whatever — that was a guess, it was an educated guess. It made sense! They had gone from Mortal Kombat to Injustice to Mortal Kombat to Injustice; that’s been their cadence so far, um… but, if you think about it a little bit further, does that make sense? Does having NetherRealm use a WB-owned property right now make sense when WB is sort of falling apart in front of our eyes where who knows where NetherRealm’s gonna’ be next year?”

He says, “Does it make it easier to sell NetherRealm, or let it spin off, or whatever if it’s making Mortal Kombat 12 instead right now? And that’s what I’ve heard is happening.” It seems like Jeff Grubb believes that Mortal Kombat 12 is the upcoming game from NetherRealm Studios. However, this isn’t certain! “I wouldn’t say this is, like, for sure but it lines up with the reality, and it lines up with what I’ve heard where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense because that’s a game they know will make money, it’ll sell well,” he says.

“If you come out with Mortal Kombat 12, it will also sell and do well, um, and at the same time, you don’t have to use any of these Batman, Superman characters that might be tied up in licensing if you try to get rid of NetherRealm, if you try to sell it to whoever,” he further says.

For now, we don’t have much or any confirmation for this speculation. However, Jeff Grubb does make a reasonable point. NetherRealm Studios may want to stay in the safe zone with Mortal Kombat 12, and the franchise is one that has continued to show success for the company over the recent years.
