Story Highlights
- CDPR dev Pawel Sasko says that half of the Cyberpunk sequel’s quest team is made up of modders.
- The studio also has modders in other departments, including a team made solely of them.
- He praised modders and their immense contributions, advising young people to “go and mod” first.
In a recent interview with Flow Games on YouTube, the Cyberpunk 2077 quest lead, Pawel Sasko, claimed that half of the sequel’s quest team is made up of modders. Also serving as the current associate game director of the sequel, he praised modders and their contributions to the gaming industry. Pawel confirms that many of the studio departments have capable modders working together to develop the Cyberpunk sequel.
Half of the quest team [on the Cyberpunk sequel] —the team that builds the quests is like 24 people right now — are former modders. [They come] from Witcher, Cyberpunk, and other games. Błażej Augustynek, who’s a quest director now, was a modder of StarCraft 1 and 2,” says Sasko.
In fact, one small team dubbed Jigsoft is only made up of modders. It played a big part in developing the modding tools for The Witcher 3. The interview dives deeply into how the studio spotted some of these talents and hired them to work on CDPR projects in the past.
We also have modders in other departments. There’s a small team called Jigsoft that’s composed only of modders. It’s around 20 of them and they’re working with us. I don’t want to call them an outsource because they’re really not, they’re a part of us. We’re working together on various things, and Jigsoft did the modding tools for The Witcher 3.”
CD Projekt Red Has Always Held Modders In High Regards
It is worth noting that Pawel Sasko and the entire CDPR respect and praise modders and the modding community. It’s reflected in the healthy modding communities in games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. The dev has gone as far as to advise young devs to first get hands-on experience with modding before jumping into the industry to brew games, claiming that “some of the best people that we have are former modders.”
