Story Highlights
- Deadlock is a brand-new Valve project in years, featuring its own take on the saturated hero shooter genre.
- As per a new update in the Deadlock changelog, a harsh fate awaits in-game cheaters.
- Those who are caught cheating in Deadlock would be subject to getting turned into a frog.
Talk about criminal justice. Deadlock, Valve’s new shooter in a considerably long time, isn’t out yet, but something tells me it’s going to be a fair bit of fun., judging from this neat little addition that the developers have made right off the bat.
A new update on the Play Deadlock forums details the latest patch notes, confirming that a new hero has been added to the third-person shooter, along with an “initial Anti-Cheat detection system.” The briefing for tweak explains,
When a user is detected as cheating, during the game session the opponents will be given a choice between banning the user immediately and ending the match or turning the cheater into a frog for the rest of the game and then banning them afterwards. The system is set to conservative detection levels as we work on a v2 anti-cheat system that is more extensive. We will turn on the banning of users in a couple of days after the update is out. When a match is ended this way, the results will not count for other players.”
This is certainly what a lot of other PvP-focused titles could benefit from as well, but I’ll happily take Deadlock as a start. The rest of the patch notes go a lot further into detail regarding gameplay, weapon items, hero, and other miscellaneous changes. Scoot over to the aforementioned forums for full disclosure, but in the meantime, here are some of the more important changes:
- Added global quickcast support
- Added Custom Match play mode
- Added a cheat report option in-game and post-game
- Updated the game access invite UI to make it clear when users have been accepted
- General rendering performance improvements
Deadlock Marches On Without A Release Date Right Now
It bears noticing that Deadlock’s playability is currently invite-only and that too through Valve’s playtesters. The game, as per its official Steam page, is in early development and has no set release date. No other details follow, except that it’s a 6v6 MOBA shooter.
