Respawn Entertainment has revealed more information regarding the next game they have in the works at present. A job listing back in January this year stated that the American studio is working on an unannounced project, one that would particularly gamers to allow “adventuring forever.” This presumptively hints at an RPG-style game with an immersive multiplayer mode, but we don’t have to assume anything anymore since Respawn has shed some light on what they have in store for us.
According to a vacancy for a Lead Combat Designer, the description writes, “Our ideal candidate is well-versed in the areas of control mechanics, enemy design, AI behaviors, combat/weapons, class design, skills/progression, story, and boss encounters. Reporting to the Game Director, this role will focus on delivering redefining gameplay combat experiences that feel good to play at every skill level.”
Combat and weapons are no rarity for Respawn games, as one can comprehend from IPs like Titanfall and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but the term “class design” is clearly something more suited to RPG games. “Adventuring forever” ties in quite profoundly here.
That’s not all, however, as a job posting for a Senior Systems Designer further gives away the possible genre of the upcoming game. The description says, “You will work with creative direction and the Game Director to develop the vision of the game systems (economy, progression, etc.) from the early stages.”
The project seems early into development, and all this is subject to change, either trivially or substantially. Until then, it makes sense to expect a title focused on the action-adventure category with RPG elements from Respawn.
