Sackboy: A Big Adventure Icon Spotted On Steam Database

The database of the game now includes an icon that is clearly visible and removes all doubt of the game's impending release on PC.

Although the project is named Steel PC, it was first theorized by a Redditor to be in fact PlayStation‘s Sackboy. The theory relied on two basic points: the name of a specific branch in the game’s Depots and a codename. The theory was put forth about 11 months ago but it seems it was correct after all.

Major Takeaways:

  • The listing for Steel PC is basically confirmed to be for Sackboy.
  • The project’s icon and languages were updated, hinting at a release soon.

The theory was like this basically: the SteamDB page listed “sumoqa” as one of the weekly builds under depots; this can be interpreted as “Sumo Digital Quality Assurance.”

The second point, and the stronger one, relates to the infamous GeForce Now leaks from last year. The Redditor who put forth this theory notes that the GeForce Now leak listed Sackboy: A Big Adventure as “Project Marmalade.” Notably, one of the two Depots for Steel PC is titled “Marmalade Content.”

All of this seems pretty convincing, however, since there was no official confirmation or denial regarding the project, much remained unclear. It would seem now that it is highly possible that the game is indeed the beloved platforming game that was exclusive to PlayStation consoles.

Doubts have been pretty much cleared away because Steel PC was just updated about two hours ago and an icon was added to the project, embedded below.

This now removes all doubt that the game is truly Sackboy: A Big Adventure and hopefully will be released on PC soon. We suspect this because the project has been getting a lot of updates recently. Most notably, it was given the following tabs in an update about 6 days ago:

All of these tags relate to Sackboy: A Big Adventure, for example, it was a single-player 3D platforming game that was family-friendly in nature, as can also be judged from its visual design and aesthetics. moreover, it had a multiplayer online co-op component wherein you could play with up to three people.

Another thing that hints very strongly toward a release soon or a significant amount of progress toward it is that the game just today (about three hours ago, just an hour before the icon update) received support for 29 major languages for its achievements:

Language support is typically one of the final adjustments added to a game pre-release. Coupled with an icon update, it strongly implies that the game is almost ready, if not ready already, to be shown to the world and rolled out to digital stores.

The listing was first spotted in October last year, only a month after the Nvidia Geforce Now leak. The leak left the whole industry dumbfounded as a whole swathe of planned PC ports and upcoming remasters and projects that were as much as 10 years away from release were leaked.

It is that leak that lead to the marmalade clue and the project being suspected. It has been a year since then and many would think that the game is probably ready now, however, what state it is in we do not know and that is what will affect its release.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure features the titular Sackboy as the protagonist from the LittleBigPlanet series, of which Sackboy: A big Adventure is a spinoff. The LittleBigPlanet games were all major sellers for Sony and Sackboy is considered by many to be the mascot of PlayStation.

Sumo Digital, the developers of LittleBigPlanet 3 were also the developers of Sackboy: A Big Adventure. More recently, they did additional work on Microsoft and Playground Games’ premier racing games Forza Horizon 4 and 5.

We sincerely hope that PC players also get to experience playing as the whimsical protagonist in this lovely game by Sumo Digital. Till it releases, we will just have to wait, impatient as we may be.
