Over 15 minutes of Astro Bot gameplay has also surfaced online. The footage was uploaded on YouTube before it was made private. However, NeoGAF user Draugoth was able to secure mirrors of the gameplay before it could vanish from the face of the internet. The leaker likely got their hands on a development build of the game ahead of time, but not many other details are known.

The gameplay mostly focuses on showing the main hub, with all the bots gathered there to do their own thing. Additionally, there are some prominent bots like Leon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil 2, Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter, Dante from Devil May Cry, Aigis from Persona 3, and many others from popular franchises. It’s fair to say that many players are excited about the huge and diverse lineup of bots in Astro Bot.
Astro Bot Was Planned To Go Open-World But Asobi Decided Against It
When the game was in the planning process, Team Asobi almost went the open-world route like many other sequels in recent times. However, the devs eventually decided against it in favor of a level-based approach. Choosing the latter has allowed the studio to focus more on creativity and individual levels. Focusing on a single open world would have taken away control over the game’s variety that the devs sought.

All in all, it is best to take these rumors with a grain of salt. The gameplay footage, while it looks great, is still from the dev build. That means that a lot is prone to change before the platformer officially releases in the future. Regardless, Astro Bot is set to release on September 6, 2024, exclusively for PlayStation 5. A free DLC is also planned to arrive after release.
