No DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth As Devs Prioritize Releasing Part 3

The three-part trilogy is yet to be completed.

Story Highlights

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the best action-adventure RPGs in the business right now.
  • The game belongs to a three-part trilogy and is yet to be succeeded by the final iteration in the series.
  • The developer of the trilogy has said that Rebirth’s DLC is getting skipped to favor work on part 3.

Square Enix has its eyes set on the next rendition in the terrific Final Fantasy 7 remake franchise, which was only recently followed up by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. As per the studio’s ambitions, the devs wish to put out a three-part trilogy of Final Fantasy 7—the iconic 1997-launched classic—and now, it appears that priority focus is being shifted to the third and final Final Fantasy 7 game.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Star, the director of the series Naoki Hamaguchi expanded on the subject of DLC and whether the studio wants to pursue something along those lines. According to Hamaguchi, fan interest in potential DLC is substantial, but there’s something else that the fans want even more than a Rebirth expansion.

We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing. I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.”

Hamaguchi confirms that the team is slaving away at the next Final Fantasy 7 game instead of spending resources on Rebirth’s DLC.

So that’s why we’ve decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can. So for the moment, that’s where we’re focusing our time.”

Remaking The Original Final Fantasy 7 Has Taken Three Games

I’m pretty sure this spells great news for Final Fantasy 7 fans who have been looking forward to the next chapter of Final Fantasy 7. It bears mentioning that the original iteration from the late 1990s came out on 3 discs for the PlayStation, spanning a huge amount of content.

Almost 80% of the entire game was encompassed by the first disc, and now that both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth cover that particular portion of the experience, the third Final Fantasy 7 title should indulge the rest of the two discs, which aren’t too lengthy as far as memory recalls it.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth came out on February 29, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, becoming the month’s second-most downloaded title on the platform.
