Story Highlights
- In a new PlayStation Studio profile video, Nixxes has revealed that it’s working more and more on remasters.
- The Dutch developer, which is primarily responsible for the PC ports of Sony’s first-party games, is seemingly expanding its portfolio.
In a new PlayStation spotlight video, Coen Frauenfelder, the Lead Engineer at Nixxes, let slip that the developer is actually working much more on remasters. While talking in the video, the engineer said that besides high-quality PC ports, the Dutch studio is also putting more effort into “creating remasters.” Hence, even though the developer isn’t making any full-blown games for Sony, it could be working on some critical projects.
Since its acquisition by Sony Interactive Entertainment in July 2021, Nixxes has mainly worked on PC ports of first-party PlayStation titles. The Dutch studio has ported every one of Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to Microsoft Windows since 2021. Unsurprisingly, 40% of the developer’s work is based on game ports to different platforms.
However, it looks like Nixxes is expanding its portfolio to remasters as per this new PlayStation studio profile video. Lead engineer Coen Frauenfelder does go on to say that the developer is still not making full-blown games. But, the Dutch studio is now also developing remasters in addition to the ports as Frauenfelder reveals at the 25-second mark in the video.
What we provide for PlayStation Studios is high-quality PC ports and also working more and more in creating remasters.”
He didn’t give us any details about these titles, but it seems like we can see an upcoming PlayStation remaster that Nixxes either co-developed or worked on with some other studio. Fans already have some ideas regarding the games the studio could be helping remaster. According to one Tweet, the Ratchet & Clank remaster could be possible, considering how the dev has already worked on the franchise.
However, others are hoping franchises like Killzone, Infamous, and Sly Cooper get some spotlight in these remasters. There have been no new Sly Cooper titles in the main series since 2013’s Thieves in Time for the PlayStation 3. Therefore, a comeback is long overdue for the series, even if it is in the form of a remaster. Similarly, Killzone and Infamous have also been lying dormant for a decade at PlayStation and deserve a revival.

One other name which fans have hopefully floated is Jak and Daxter, which has seen no mainline entries since 2009. For sure, the platformer did get a bundle in 2017, but the fan-favorite has been on the bench for a little too long so a remaster will appease players. We have no idea if Nixxes is working on these popular Sony IPs or not, but It’s safe to say fans will be happy if any one of their old games gets the remaster treatment.
